First-year History undergraduate Patrick Maxwell has recently introduced a new edition of Leo Tolstoy's 1894 non-fiction work , published by the American publisher Warbler Classics.

The polemic is a vivid statement of Tolstoy's doctrine of non-violent resistance and explores the profound implications of Tolstoy's all-encompassing religious worldview. Patrick's introduction was also published as 'Tolstoy's Search for Truth: The Kingdom of God' by .

In it he sets Tolstoy's political and philosophical views in the light of his fictional works, and discusses the commentary of the philosopher and former ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Fellow Isaiah Berlin, whose essays have had a deep impact on Anglophone interpretations of Russian writers. The new edition continues Patrick's work with Warbler Classics, which has produced several editions of Ukrainian and Russian literature – by authors including Gogol and Dostoevsky – over the past two years.
