²ÝÁñÊÓƵ

Old Member, Alex Reut-Hobbs, returned to ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ on Thursday to give a talk to students on financial literacy. The session focussed on the most important parts of post-university finance, including credit ratings, pensions, mortgages, and asset allocation.

Alex, who read Classics at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ (m. 2008), now runs his own financial advisory practice as a Chartered Financial Planner. Following the session, he said:

"It was great fun returning to ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ to teach financial literacy to undergrads and grad students. We went through the basics of asset classes, risk, and diversification, before I demystified the most relevant things for university leavers: tax, pensions, and mortgages. I learnt many things at Oxford, but financial literacy was not one of them. I hope to continue shining a light on these matters for ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ students to ensure they are better informed when they leave than I was."

Money is integral to every aspect of our lives, and yet financial education does not feature at any level of the curriculum. Alex is seeking to change this by teaching financial literacy through these sessions in schools and universities.
